A good day’s ploughing, with plenty of spectators and supporters for the European Vintage, Scottish and Five Nations competitors. Rain in the morning turned into showers in the afternoon. Forecast for Sunday cool and sunny.

Euro Vintage results will be posted once received.

Friday evening, 22nd October

A busy day on site, with final preparations taking place.

European Vintage ploughing competitors had their practice day today, which went well.

Many trade stands arrived, along with catering and bar, which were up and running and serving by lunchtime until late into the evening.

Final layout for trade stands, demo plots and ploughing competitions were made and many attended the excellent service at Ancrum Kirk before the dinner at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel.

Once again the Buccleuch provided a super meal, enjoyed by European Vintage competitors and invited guests.

There’s been a bit of rain tonight, but as there hasn’t been a lot of rain this week at Upper Nisbet, we hope that this won’t cause any problems tomorrow.

The main area in the steading is very atmospheric, with the horses enjoying their hay, behind the bar, catering and crafts area.

All systems go for tomorrow and the start of competition.

Welcome reception at Buccleuch Arms Hotel last night – hotel provided an excellent meal and all competitors, friends and organisers had a very enjoyable evening.

Today is official practice day for the European Vintage competitors and although there has been a little rain overnight, with some showers forecast for today, the ground is fine.

Blessing of the Plough at 6 pm this evening at Ancrum Kirk.

Dinner at the Buccleuch Arms this evening for the European Vintage competitors – tickets all sold, so should be a good evening.

Final preparations on site today, all ready for competition tomorrow!

The Scottish Ploughing Association looks forward to welcoming the European Vintage competitors today, and Bobby Douglas, President of the European Ploughing Association, will be on hand to welcome and direct the competitors and their parties.

The site is ready, with plenty of bookings for trade stand space, demonstration plots and craft stands. Ploughing commences at 10 am on Saturday morning for the Vintage competitors, and 9.30 am for the Scottish competitors.

European Vintage Opening ceremony at 9 am.

The site at Upper Nisbet, Jedburgh, by kind permission of Robert Neill and Partners, is a light sandy soil. The large rolling fields offer excellent views for spectators.

Entries have been received from Belgium, England, Germany, Isle of Man, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Republic of Irland, Scotland and Wales.
